First Off Announcements and the like. Sam: Forget the new branding. Here's the biggest Facebook (erm, Meta) announcement that will be of interest to innovation watchers in Boston.
The social media network is partnering with GelSight, a Waltham-based robotics and tactile sensing startup, to manufacture and sell DIGIT, a tactile sensor designed to help robots feel (or at least touch).
"Our technology and this partnership will help generate new applications for robotics as engineers, hobbyists and researchers will have access to a small form factor, imaging-based technology at a more accessible price point than ever before," said GelSight's CEO Youssef Benmokhtar in a statement.
The Big One A breakdown of the day's biggest innovation story. Sam: They've done it for car buying and vacation planning. Now can they upend the rental market?
A team with experience founding and growing CarGurus and Tripadvisor is launching a new apartment-rental search site today, promising to be more consumer-friendly and transparent for renters.

“The whole industry is kind of stuck in this Web 1.0 space that came out of the classified model, and there hasn’t been a ton of innovation since then," said CEO Tom Gilmore.
I was struck by the surprisingly honest "sort by worst deal" tool, which shows you that certain listings are thousands of dollars above market value.
